Casablanca, 03 September: Confederation of African Rugby President Aziz Bougja has won another term in office of Africa’s controlling body. Bougja was re-elected unopposed at the CAR general Assembly held in Casablanca, Morocco. His main opponent for the job, Tunisia’s Fathi Hachicha withdrew from the presidential race just before the final vote took place.
Bougja was delighted with his victory: ” I am very happy, what I want to do now is to continue with the work we started, get more countries to play rugby in Africa and improve the standard of the game.”
CAR vice-president Paul Sigombe from Uganda also won another term after defeating South Africa’s Mike Stofile by 25 votes to 4 in the -elections. Kenya’s Richard Omwela and Zambian Peter Manda was elected onto the CAR Executive while Stofile and Namibian Dirk Conradie lost their places on the CAR decision making body.
