Nairobi, 12 August, Uganda recorded one of the biggest victories in their history when they defeated Kenya at the East African Rugby Football Union Grounds by 22 points to 20 on Saturday afternoon. The victory gave Uganda the Tusker Elgon Cup after the first leg match in Kampala ended in a seven –all draw. The Cranes had to fight back from a 14-point deficit at the break to win one of the most exciting matches in recent time at the EARFU Grounds in recent times.

Uganda scored four tries and one conversion to Kenya’s two tries, two conversions and two penalties. The influence of former Springbok Seven’s and Cats coach, Chester Williams, has been immense as this was Uganda second big win over one of the big guns in African Rugby. Two months ago the Cranes defeated 1995 World cup Finalists the Ivory Coast in Kampala. The result is a devastating blow for Kenya ahead of their World Cup Qualifier against Namibia in Nairobi next month. Uganda would have gained a great deal of confidence for their next match, also a World Cup Qualifier against Morocco on the 9 Th of September in Kampala.
